Amy Thorne, Wedding Planner- A ‘creative’ that was trapped in a corporate world.
Amy Thorne is a Wedding Director and owns her own wedding planning business; Amaranthyne Weddings. After living in Europe for four years, she is now happily settled in the pretty village of Heighington along with her husband and daughter. Amy loves to spend quality time with her family and friends, travel and indulge in beautiful food. She also loves a morning run, spin or yoga class if time allows and a good book and glass of fizz is also enjoyed from time to time.
Amaranthyne Weddings officially launched at the beginning of 2012 after lots of hard work, studying (in wedding planning and interior design), research, work experience and tears. “I finally realised in my mid 30’s that it was time to follow my dream career.” She says she felt like a ‘creative’ trapped in a corporate world of being a high end PA/Events Coordinator. Since pursuing her Wedding Planning business dream, Amy has not looked back since.
Amy describes herself as creative, calm, supportive and super organised yet friendly, genuine and approachable. From enquiry through to first dance, she loves the journey with a couple. “I love bringing a couple’s ideas and vision together to create their dream day.” Ensuring an exquisite, elegant and exclusive occasion is created and executed is always Amy’s goal, she is very passionate about all of her weddings . Many of her couples end up as very good friends after investing in her for their wedding, which can only be a true reflection of her connection and friendship with them throughout.
Many of Amy’s clients are professional couples, couples that don’t live in the area they are getting married in or couples from overseas who are getting married in the UK. “Wedding planner’s aren’t for everyone and a lot of the time it can depend on the wedding venue they have chosen as well as to whether couple’s need that extra assistance.” They rely on her expertise and she always makes sure that any supplier she recommends has the same work ethic as her, as well as being another correct piece of the jigsaw. “Every couple and wedding are different so quite often different suppliers are used to create their perfect day.”
In 2017, Amy predicts upcoming trends. She says that a lot more laid back and relaxed weddings are happening, with sharing platters and guests bringing cakes and desserts. She explains that beautiful lighting is even more popular, especially outside, which is a photographer’s dream! “With the pantone colour of the year being ‘greenery’, this is really showing a major trend in weddings as couples are using lots of green and soft creams in their wedding colour palette” this works well with marquee weddings and barn weddings and she says it gives a really romantic, natural and eco vibe. Undoubtably, timeless elegance is always popular and very beautiful, especially in English country houses and estates.
Amy would encourage new brides-to-be to begin wedding planning by deciding what time of year you would like to get married and start venue hunting. She does a wedding venue search which is very popular, her main areas are Lincolnshire, Rutland, Cambridgeshire, the Vale of Belvoir and Derbyshire, however she will work pretty much anywhere in the UK. “Once your wedding venue is decided upon, research and book your photographer, florist and find your dress, as well as sending out ‘save the dates’. Everything else will start to fall into place. Amy says its important not to stress about trying to compete with friends other family members wedding. “It is your day and should reflect ‘you’.” She also thinks brides-to-be should be realistic about their budget. “If photographers and flowers are really important to you, make sure you invest in the right people for these elements.”
In 2016, Amy was awarded with Most Popular Wedding Planner in The UK. This along with getting amazing feedback from her lovely couples and suppliers is her greatest achievements from her career. She has had many memorable moments throughout wedding planning. Amy has now worked on over a hundred weddings. However, she still remembers her first international couple back in 2014, they lived in Canada and she felt so thrilled that across all of those miles, they chose her to assist with their special day. “From searching for their wedding venue until the day itself was an absolute pleasure. We are still really good friends now as well, such a great couple.”
