Costa Rica – Pura Vida
An assault on the senses. Im not sure how else to describe my recent trip to Costa Rica. It touched every sense possible – the sights, the smells, the sounds, the feels – you wanted to reach out and touch everything, feel everything and immerse yourself in everything. While there it felt like my heart would burst, I don’t think I stopped smiling and it gave me a sense of freedom, opportunity and joy. Going to places where the sun shines give me this quite often, I really am a summer girl but there was a little extra something something – it lit you up.
My main purpose for going to Costa Rica was to go to a retreat run by my friend Meghan – when she moved to Costa Rica, there was never any doubt in my mind that I would eventually go there one day. I just knew. I knew the retreat would top me up so to speak in terms of self acceptance, guide me to find the old Jo again (she was there all along!) and find the magic in the everyday but it gave me so much more. The other ladies that were there were supportive, engaging, interesting, inspiring and in honesty just fun, joyful and a pleasure to spend time with. In addition, there really is some magic about this country – from walking in primary rainforest to swimming in an ocean that was as warm as bath water to sitting in hot springs to sliding down the current of a river and watching sunset. Real wonders of the world. It fed and watered my thirst for adventure, travel and feeling the sun on my face.
We stayed in the incredible setting of Manoas and as Tatum walked us round and pointed out plants, insects and views, you could tell the jungle was part of her soul. As expected the sounds of the jungle wake you early each morning. I would embrace this by sitting outside and watching the birds begin to wake up or taking early morning solo walks down by the river. It is here I experienced eye to eye contact with a humming bird , swooping down to say hello. This was just one example of magic finding us – A blue morpho dancing around our legs, bright coloured birds singing to you, flowers showing off in the sunshine, monkeys showing us who is the boss – I won’t mention the locust on the wall, the little gheko falling off the ceiling on to the dinner table, the bug stuck to my back under my shirt – both amazing and uncomfortable all in one experience.
Ive always thought my dream life is to have winters in the sunshine, a house by the sea and the opportunity to travel to the sunshine – but what if every single day is filled with sunshine? There is no limit to possibilities of joy, light, opportunity and adventure – that really is finding the magic.
I ended up using my phone camera so much more as it is much more portable and in the end I just believed that the memories were in my mind forever. I can visualise, smell and feel Costa Rica – its within me now but the iPhone just gave me a reference point. All i-phone images below and just a few of the pictures below are taken by the other gorgeous ladies on the retreat and kindly shared between us all.
I have no doubt that I will be back one day but for now my spirit is lifted, more adventures await me and my life is full of sunshine. Thank You Meghan for hosting a magical retreat. xx
