The Red Barn- A hidden gem in rural Norfolk full of rustic charm
The Red Barn is buried deep in the stunning West Norfolk countryside. Located between Kings Lynn and Downham Market, it’s the perfect place to hold an elegant wedding day. When visiting the beautiful old barn, I felt it was full of character and rustic charm. The way the barn has been fashioned, from the timber joints to the handmade bricks, the shape and everything about it feels tasteful, classic, graceful and appealing.
The barn is a family enterprise run by the Rockcliffe Family, built back in the 16th Century possibly by monks from Bury St Edmunds. They would stack the sheeves of corn that had been cut and brought in to store and thresh the grain. The handmade bricks used to make up the walls of the barn were crafted on the farm for which they dug out the clay and the farm workers laid the bricks themselves. Does that paint an alluring picture of character or what?
As soon as couples come to The Red Barn to look around, they fall in love with it. It’s a very different venue to a hotel or hall. Its an agricultural building that looks the perfect part, it’s kept as much as possible to how it was originally with the Rockcliffe family just restoring it and keeping it in good health and well-being. The barns itself is licensed for its own civil ceremonies with Norfolk Registrars and is available for an entire wedding day from civil ceremony to reception. The venue fits 130 guests for a ceremony and 200 guests for a reception.
Brides and grooms that have shared their special day at The Red Barn love the flexibility of the service providers they can use to customise their wedding to their preference. Upon booking, a thick booklet of many different service providers contact details is given with everything from catering companies to barn dance bands and callers, casino table companies to fridge and freezer hire and photographers to jazz musicians.
There is no restrictions on the service companies that can be chosen and the Rockcliffe Family encourage the bride and groom to tailor their choices to their own preference to ensure their perfect day is created. The Red Barn loves the fact that that every couple is different and have got different ideas and aspirations of their wedding day. Richard Rockcliffe, a member of the family that run the barn, says that “Its a special day and we do our utmost best to work alongside the bride and groom to provide what they are looking for.”
The barn is surrounded by a real working farm that is used Monday to Friday so the field views, farm buildings and rural location all add to the character. With lots of open space and big skies the photography taken on wedding days held at The Red Barn is stunning. In the Summer, there is a cornfield, blue skies and pretty greenery. In the Autumn, there is the red and brown leaves on the trees and the floor and in the Winter, there are Christmas trees and decorations and everything is covered in a beautiful frost. So, no matter what time of the year it is, the location has the elements for striking photos that you and your partner can hold on to forever.
Being very easy to find with a large car park available for overnight use, the venue is very accessible. There are disabled toilets, baby changing, supplied tables and chairs, provided background music, speakers and a microphone, projector screen and WiFi. The Barn has its own Alcohol Licence and does not charge any Corkage Fee’s. They have back up power supply if in the rare occasion there is a power cut and members of the Rockcliffe family are available for general support for your wedding.
The venue is very exclusive and only accept one wedding per weekend to assure everything can be focused on making that one wedding amazing. Unlike a hotel, you and your guests are the only ones with use of the venue so it’s yours to fully enjoy. This very special venue can be booked or contacted using the contact details below.
